Goals of Baptism preparation
To lead parents and godparents into a deeper understanding of the sacrament of Baptism and the commitment it requires of them.
To welcome and invite the parents and godparents into a deeper involvement in the life of the St. Vincent de Paul parish community.
To support and strengthen the relationship of the parents and godparents with the church.
To prepare the parents and godparents to enter into the liturgical celebration of the child’s baptism with “full, conscious and active participation”.
To comply with the Diocese of Austin Guidelines for Preparation for Infant Baptism.
Baptism preparation requirements
The Baptism preparation program at St. Vincent de Paul is called “From the Font” and consists of two 90-minute classes each held once per month. Classes are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in P1..
Class #1 – Responsibilities: Accepting the responsibility of training children in the practice of the faith.
Class #2 – Theology of Baptism: Understanding the theology and symbols of the Rite of Baptism.
Classes may be attended in either order, but BOTH classes must be attended by parents to comply fully with Diocese of Austin guidelines for Baptism preparation.
