Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. The mission and vision are anchored around a dedication to ending the cycle of poverty housing and the deeply held belief that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live.
Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 100,000 homes in more than 80 countries, including over 30,000 homes across the United States. Locally, Austin Habitat of Humanity has built over 500 homes and Habitat of Williamson County has built nearly 100 homes, and SVdP parishioners have helped build many of these.
For over 25 consecutive years, the Diocese of Austin has been building homes with Austin Habitat for Humanity and in 2023, our Catholics crew completed our 27th home! The partnership was initiated by then Bishop John McCarthy and many parishes have been providing construction, financial, and prayer support. St Vincent de Paul is one of the few parishes that also provides lunch support, often a few times during the typically spring build cycle.
The annual Catholic build is now known as the Bishop McCarthy Memorial Build (BMMB) and it usually starts in late February and completes in June. You do not need construction experience or come frequently to participate; even 1 or 2 Saturdays will make a difference and you will enjoy the experience. If you want to learn more, see the FAQs page. Are you interested in becoming a construction volunteer for the next BMMB? Maybe you'd like to be part of the lunch crew?
